"Sai Gon, a dream" by Voshida Truong

Evening everyone,

our second exhibition this year, "Sai Gon, a dream" by Voshida Truong, is opening on Monday the 24th of February in Brynmawr's Market Hall Cinema and will run there until the 15th of March. Below you can find some more information and also make sure to visit Voshida's page.

“Sài Gòn, a dream” is a solo exhibition by young Vietnamese photographer, Voshida Truong. Voshida comes from Tien Giang in the south of Vietnam, and lives and works in Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon (or Sài Gòn in Vietnamese).

Voshida’s multiple exposures on film capture the contrasts of the city - the grand and the intimate, the rush and the chaos, but also the quiet and contemplative moments. They also look beyond the city borders, towards the freedom of natural landscapes.

Despite their surreal aesthetic, Voshida’s photographs offer the subtle and sensitive gaze of a street photographer who looks at the human and personal dimension of life in a metropolis.

You can find Voshida’s work on Instagram and his blog.

“Sài Gòn, a dream” is the second in the series of 9 exhibitions that will be organised in 2020 by the*kickplate*project in Brynmawr, Rhymney, Fochriw and Abersychan, thanks to support from the Arts Council of Wales and Cwm a Mynydd, and cooperation with our partner venues.

Mae “Sài Gòn, breuddwyd” yn arddangosfa solo gan ffotograffydd ifanc o Fietnam, Voshida Truong. Daw Voshida o Tien Giang yn ne Fietnam, ac mae'n byw a gweithio yn Ninas Ho Chi Minh, a elwir hefyd yn Saigon (neu Sài Gòn mewn Fietnameg).

Mae dinoethiad lluosog Voshida ar ffilm yn dangos gwrthgyferbyniadau'r ddinas - y mawreddog a'r agos-atoch, y rhuthr a'r anrhefn, ond hefyd yr ennydau tawel a myfyriol. Edrychant hefyd tu hwnt i ffin y ddinas, tuag at ryddid tirweddau naturiol.

Er eu haestheteg swreal, mae ffotograffau Voshida yn cynnig edrychiad cynnil a sesnsitif ffotograffydd stryd sy'n edrych ar ddimensiwn dynol a phersonol bywyd mewn metropolis.

Gallwch weld gwaith Voshida ar Instagram a'i flog.

Mae “Sài Gòn, breuddwyd” yw’r ail o gyfres o 9 arddangosfa y bydd prosiect *kickplate* yn eu trefnu yn 2020 ym Mrynmawr, Rhymni, Fochriw ac Abersychan, diolch i gefnogaeth Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru a Cwm a Mynydd, a chydweithrediad gyda'n lleoliadau partner.
