"They Loved This Place" by Becca Thomas and Clare Charles

Evening everyone,

We have a new exhibition opening tomorrow between 14 and 20!

"They Loved This Place" is a guest exhibition of recent work by Cardiff-based artists Becca Thomas and Clare Charles.

Although Becca and Clare often work collaboratively, with each other, with artists and with communities, this exhibition represents an opportunity to for them to explore their individual artist practice further.

The exhibition consists of two installations: "Please Water the Plants" by Clare Charles and "Bench Making Experiments to Explore the Potential to Interrupt the Urban Environment for Well Being and Reclamation" by Becca Thomas.

"Please Water the Plants"

Taking Diana as a pinnacle of social expectations of care, "Please Water the Plants" links colours, clothing, products and fabrics, and questions who we expect to do the labour of care.

"Bench Making Experiments to Explore the Potential to Interrupt the Urban Environment for Well Being and Reclamation"

Made collaboratively by Becca Thomas, Christian Hart, Sam Hasler, Nia Metcalfe, Anne-Sophie Ouvrier, Thom O’Sullivan and Ian Watson.

***

The exhibition opens on Monday June 18th from 2pm, and throughout the day Becca and Clare will be preparing food in the space with artists Thom O'Sullivan and Nia Metcalfe. You are warmly invited to join them from 6 - 8pm at the gallery when this will be served, along with cakes from Penrhiwgyngi Farm Bakery. Steve Harris from Saving Vinyl Music will be playing records from his excellent stall at Pontypool Indoor Market.
